Learn What Makes Sea Island Such a Desirable Resort
1. Southern Charm
With its roots as “a friendly little hotel” on the southern coast of Georgia, this incredible place between the marshland and the sea is something very special. Founded on simple traditions, the treasures of family, friends, and nature are built on genuine warmth and hospitality. Sea Island is the only resort in the world to achieve Forbes Five-Stars eleven years in a row! The Spa at Sea Island, The Cloister, The Georgian Room and The Lodge all have been recognized with this prestigious accomplishment.
2. Premier Lodging Options
The Cloister: The AAA Five-Diamond, Forbes Five-Star Cloister is a Mediterranean masterpiece that preserves the original architecture’s illustrious history. The Cloister’s 265 elegant guest rooms and suites offer sweeping views of the Black Banks River, Atlantic Ocean, and lush natural settings. Cloister accommodations include rooms and suites in the Main Building, adjacent wings, suites in the Sea Island Beach Club, and 1, 2, and 3-bedroom accommodations in The Cloister Ocean Residences.
The Lodge: The AAA Five-Diamond, Forbes Five-Star Lodge caters to guests seeking ultimate privacy and luxury. The intimate 57-room hotel and golf clubhouse offers expansive ocean views and is surrounded by the emerald fairways of The Sea Island Golf Club. Recent enhancements include the addition of six new cottages, an oceanfront pool, pool house, an 18-hole putting course, and a new Golf Performance Center. The Lodge’s unprecedented gracious hospitality features first-class amenities including a butler offering, freshly-baked cookies nightly and daily performances by the resort’s resident bagpiper at sundown.
The Inn: Located on St. Simons Island, just two miles from The Cloister on Sea Island, The Inn is only four miles from the Sea Island Golf Club. And it’s near historic sites and shopping on St. Simons Island. The Inn reflects the signature Addison Mizner Mediterranean design seen throughout Sea Island. With 85 guest rooms, The Inn offers casual, comfortable accommodations, complimentary breakfast, an evening bar, a heated pool, and a Topgolf Swing Suite. The high-tech gaming simulator features popular Topgolf target games, Zombie Dodgeball, 84 golf courses (including Seaside at Sea Island), and more.
3. Links-Style Golf
Seaside: An ocean-side links course that combines its beautiful natural setting with a golf course that is both challenging and fun. The beautifully manicured fairways and greens are bordered by sweeping dunes mixed with native grasses, wildflowers, and bunkers. And the wind creates a different golf experience daily. Sea Island’s most dramatic layout, Seaside is routinely ranked among the top 100 courses in the United States.
Plantation: Created by the great British designer Walter Travis in 1928, Plantation was Sea Island’s first nine-hole course. Redesigned in 1998 by Rees Jones, Plantation serves along with Seaside as home to the RSM Classic, a PGA TOUR event hosted by Davis Love III. And now, Davis and his brother, Mark, are redesigning the course. The reopening is slated for Fall 2019.
Retreat: Surrounded by towering Georgia longleaf pines, sleepy native oaks, and dramatic greens, players of all levels will enjoy this course.
4. Historic Oaks
Since 1928, Presidents, royalty, and other luminaries who visit Sea Island Resort plant a commemorative oak tree. Calvin Coolidge began this simple tradition when he visited the resort during the first holiday season it opened. The live oaks is the state tree of Georgia and a southern symbol for strength.
5. Food Enthusiasts Paradise
The resort’s nine restaurants feature a distinctive menu of delectable cuisine under the direction of Resort Director of Food and Beverage, Jonathan Jerusalmy. With an array of food options from seafood to Italian and casual to Forbes Five-Star, there’s something for everyone no matter what you’re in the mood for. The Georgian Room, Sea Island’s Forbes Five-Star award-winning restaurant, features classic dishes prepared with French techniques complemented by an extensive selection of wines from The Cloister Cellar.
6. Recreational Activities
Aside from golf, Sea Island offers a variety of land and sea activities for everyone in the family to take part in, both on and off the property. For the water sport adventurers, you can boat, go fishing, paddleboard, kayak, sail, or take a kiteboarding class and even enjoy a Funcycle on five miles of a private beach. For the land lovers, there’s plenty to do from nature tours, falconry, shooting, horseback riding, tennis, and hunting.
7. Golf Performance Center
The all-new Golf Performance Center features world-renowned instructors, industry-leading technology, oceanfront hitting and club fitting bays, indoor and outdoor meeting and event spaces, all in a brand new, 17,000 square-foot center, with an indoor gym, full-service club workshop, and a putting studio that is state-of-the-art.
